The RV park is for ID card holders only but the Marina is open to the public. The 15 full hook-up sites ($12) are paved sites with gravel/rock landscaping and are located on the top of a windy ridge. The 5 water/electric only sites ($10) have paved pads with grass, trees and covered pavilions. They are off the ridge top and have some protection from the prevailing southeast winds. There are also cabins for rent ($27.50) and the management (US Air Force) has moved some FEMA trailers into 4 of the RV full hook-up sites to rent ($25) as cabins also. Tent sites with no hook-ups and picnic tables are available and frequently used on weekends for local family get-to-gathers. The cable service is terrible and does not include any local stations, so you need a NOAA radio to find out what the weather will be. The ridge top sites are almost always windy and 30-40 mph is not uncommon. There is a great dog walking area but keep a good grip on the leash if your dog likes to chase deer. Deer, armadillo, skunks, etc. are all abundant in the area and will get into anything left out. Nice in winter, hot in summer, and a good fishing spot all year.

We stayed in the E/W hoop-up loop, on a first come/first serve site, and had a great view of the lake. The lake gets crowded on weekends but during the week is mostly deserted. The E/W hook-up loop of the campground was full and stays that way through most of the summer, but the electric only sites never seemed to fill up. I guess we were lucky to get a site. A good fishing lake, in beautiful country. The Abiquiu store has everything you may need and is about a 15 min drive.

The park looks like a big gravel oblong driveway but when you pull in you notice there are hook-ups under the bushes on either side of the drive. The owner came out and helped us get turned around which for a 30ft 5th Wheel was a bit of a tight fit. The park is across the street from the National Forest Ranger Station and just south of the highway junction that is Pecos, NM. The park was very quiet. The town does not have a leash law so all the dogs in town wander over to see what is going on and see if they can get a ear scratch. Fishing in the Pecos is the main attraction and the weather, even in summer, is cool. We would stay again and, while not a premier RV park, it was a great visit for us.

Our favorite I-10 stop over. Easy in and out, not too near freeway, lots of dog walking area, cable, and a honor system of pick your own spot after office hours. The only reason I do not give it a 9 or 10 is the gravel and clay sites can be a mess after a rain and there is no shade. For us the price and convenience makes it unbeatable in the region.

Watch out for gopher holes under your landing gear and stabilizers. Some sites have the sewer hook-up on the opposite side of the RV from the water/electric. The base has a indoor pool and full support facilities i.e. gym, BX, commissary, clinic, gas station, craft shops, outdoor rec. etc.
